A delimber is a machine that strips branches from felled tree stems. After a
feller buncher cuts the trees and a
skidder drags them to the landing, the delimber processes them into clean, limbless stems. In whole-tree logging operations, the delimber is an essential part of the production chain.
Types of Delimbers
Gate delimbers (also called pull-through delimbers) are the most common type. The operator feeds the butt end of the tree into a set of hydraulic knives that strip the branches as the stem is pulled through. Some operations use processor heads mounted on excavators that combine delimbing, bucking, and measuring in one step.
Common Manufacturers
Prentice, CAT, John Deere, and Waratah are well-known in the delimber market.
